Bagore Ki Haveli – The Royal Mansion on Lake Pichola
Bagore Ki Haveli is a magnificent 18th-century mansion located at Gangaur Ghat on the banks of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Built by Amar Chand Badwa, the Prime Minister of Mewar under Maharana Pratap Singh II, this haveli is one of the finest examples of traditional Rajasthani architecture and offers a fascinating glimpse into the royal lifestyle of Udaipur’s past.
Historical Background
Constructed in the late 18th century, Bagore Ki Haveli initially served as the residence of Amar Chand Badwa. After his death, it became part of the royal property and was later occupied by Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore—hence the name Bagore Ki Haveli.
The haveli remained an important part of the Mewar kingdom for generations, witnessing royal ceremonies and social gatherings. In the 1980s, it was restored by the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), preserving its heritage while turning it into a museum and cultural center.
Architecture & Design
Bagore Ki Haveli is a splendid structure with over 100 rooms, intricately designed balconies, jharokhas, courtyards, terraces, and corridors. Each section showcases detailed craftsmanship through mirror work, glass inlay, murals, and colorful frescoes that reflect the opulent lifestyle of the Rajput nobility.
